General info
Guitarist Michael Bloomfield and organ player Al Kooper was part of Bob Dylan's backing band in 1965, playing together with Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson behind Dylan at a few concerts. They were also present on Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited sessions. Kooper later was involved with Paul Butterfield's Blues Band and Blood, Sweat & Tears, and guested on records by Dylan, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, which he kind of discovered and produced. Bloomfield, that died of drug abuse in 1981, is known for his work with Paul Butterfield and the group Electric Flag.
The Live Adventures of..., a follow-up to the successful 1968 jam album Super Session with Bloomfield, Kooper and Stephen Stills, was recorded over three nights in 1968 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. It's a typical '60s live album, rather unfocused but notable for Bloomfield's singing debut. Includes a cover of "The Weight".
ZAP - press the CD "PLAY" button and you're transported back to 1968. These days, days of flower power and peace, harbored the musical innovators and the supergroups: Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, the Beatles, and the Who. These were the times of musicians' musicians, who expanded their horizons by collaborating with others of their caliber. Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper, both friends and seasoned veterans of multiple other recordings, had come together for the first "Super Session" album, a classic. This album, in many ways superior to the first, was the second live meeting, and you're there. From the first hesitating, apologetic speech the nervous Mike Bloomfield makes at the opening to the finale, this 2-disc album is the best of the blues/rock genre - music before big business and MTV and mass marketing took over. Imagine yourself on a warm summer night in 1968 - listen to it, feel it. Makes you want to stay in the times of music like that, and never come back - "Oh, Mary Ann... can I go home with you..?"
